7D/AV Installation 2/Brittany Jean Show

January 18th, 2011

Yes, I know! Lots of stuff.

-I finally ordered the Canon 7D. I can’t put into words how excited I am. Look for Internet-based audio/visual work from me coming in the next month or so. (And yes, if you’ve noticed, I’m switching all my videos over to Vimeo. Please don’t mind the construction… the videos will be much better quality once things are moved over there.)

-I’m also beginning work on AV Installation #2 (again, the 7D comes into play!). It’s going to be…small…but a massive undertaking. And I’m going to detail the entire process here on my site!

-Lastly, there is a Brittany Jean show this Saturday at the Velvet Lounge in DC. More information can be found at Our website will be up soon, so Brittany Jean-related posts will be moving that way (I’ll keep this site linked with an RSS feed) and this will be the true home for my solo stuff!

January 4th, 2011

Woohoo! A long time coming on this one. We recorded in October at Inner Ear Studios with Kyle Downes and the EP is now officially released. Get it on iTunes, Amazon, or order a physical CD directly from the band for the low, low price of $4.99.

Hope that you all like it!

Check out the lead single “On the Balcony” up top in my music player.

What Goes in a Press Kit?

December 15th, 2010

A lot of hard work! Har har har.

No, but seriously, if you want a serious press kit, try to include the following:

-Full-page professional photo
-Site/radio/whatever-specific cover letter
-CD (this one was eventually bubble wrapped)

Don’t forget to e-mail them ahead of time! Oh, and to follow up. Oh and to check to see if they print anything about you. Lots of work, but it’s worth it!

Brittany Jean Show – Big Hit!

December 5th, 2010

There were almost 170 people at the show on Friday. Very cool, especially for our third show! We made a ton of contacts and can’t wait to try to play there again soon.

Mixing With Asparagus

November 2nd, 2010

Food + asparagus = tasty
Music + asparagus = ?

A lot of you have been asking why the Brittany Jean EP hasn’t come out yet, as we recorded it several weeks ago. The answer is multi-faceted: design, packaging, promotion, distribution…but the most important answer of them all is mixing, which we have been doing the past couple weeks at Asparagus Media Studios (ah, yes Will… now I see where this is going…)

The Hanson Chronicles Part 2: The Opening

October 15th, 2010

So… that blog post about recording Brittany Jean for the Hanson contest? Well… our track won. We quickly assembled a band (Brittany on guitar/vox, Brian Young on bass, and me on drums), the show was promoted, and we had only a few practices before show time opening for Rooney and Hanson in front of 1000ish fans.

*Deep breath*

What Really Goes on in the Studio

October 13th, 2010

I had a fantastic weekend, and it will take me days to write about it. But for now… for all of those wondering what really goes on in the recording studio, I will show you. (Brittany Jean recorded at Inner Ear Studios this weekend with Kyle Downes!)

In all seriousness, I cannot stress enough how incredible this Brittany Jean EP is sounding. INCREDIBLE. We’re mixing at Asparagus Studios in Maryland soon.

Inner Ears and Artispheres

October 8th, 2010

Three pieces of wood…now on display at Artisphere

OK, obviously joking a bit… that’s my display in progress for Digital Synthetic, which opens tomorrow at the Artisphere. A quick funny story: I tried to find some parking so that I could run into Artisphere and ask them where the best place to park would be to unload everything. The attendant gave me a spiel about how they were closing soon, and I explained that I didn’t care and just needed to run inside a nearby building. He looked in the back of the car and immediately looked panicked, flagging down a nearby cop. She, in turn, called over more cops. “I need your identification IMMEDIATELY.” They apparently thought it was a bomb (this is why I should never wear hoodies). I tried explaining that it was an art installation. “If it’s art, then WHY ARE THERE WIRES?” Oh dear. It took a while to talk my way out of that and for them to search my car, asking about all the wires. I was eventually allowed to go walk to Artisphere and say hi… when I came back, they were still at my car! “Can I go now?” “Only if you take your car out this way, immediately.” Deal.

Anyway, everything is now installed and looking great! There are events all weekend, including the Burst party Saturday night and the open house Sunday and Monday. Come say hi! Everyone that I’ve met there has been incredibly cool. The details are all here:

My work is in the Works in Progress gallery. There, you’ll be able to check out a bunch of cool installations, and get insight into the creative process behind each. It’s a really interesting exhibit.

I won’t be there for the entire open house on Sunday because Brittany Jean is recording at the legendary Inner Ear Studios with Kyle Downes. He’s recorded Casper Bangs, Greenland, The Dance Party, and our friends The Silver Liners. I can’t wait! I’m so happy with our songs and I think that the recordings are going to sound incredible. There are a ton of posts to come on Digital Synthetic and Brittany Jean… and countless other topics! Stay tuned! (If you’re into this sort of thing, I’ll be tweeting updates on this whole crazy weekend!)
