About the book

Sonic Blueprints explores composing music for physical spaces and the people who move through them. Its ideas can take form through installed speakers, AR/VR and game environments, GPS apps, or temporary sonic installations. The book begins with perception, develops an architectural design language, explores melody, harmony, rhythm, silence and spatial behaviors, and follows the work into real conditions. A Program Brief and Sonic Blueprint connect intention to an annotated plan; musical techniques give that plan form. The result is a working vocabulary for creators and a way for listeners to hear the spaces around them more closely.

Short biography

Will Copps is an audio-visual artist and composer based in Washington, DC. His work explores relationships among sound, image, movement and place. A 2014 Amsterdam sound HackLab began an exploration of spatial composition that continued through speaker systems, GPS and augmented reality. Sonic Blueprints develops an architectural language for that practice.
