Sonar Duel is an interactive work made with new-media artist Nathan Boyer. Random melodies and a feedback loop make the two televisions behave unpredictably, while their triggers and shared harmonics give the machines a suggestion of personality.
The work holds that tension between randomness and structure, and between a simple mechanism and the illusion that the televisions might be listening to one another.
